Protecting Industrial Control, PLC and Automation Electronics from Moisture and Dust

Factory-floor electronics face a tough mix of humidity, dust, coolant and cleaning mist, vibration and chemical fumes. PLC boards, drives, I/O modules and control-panel electronics control expensive processes, so unplanned downtime is costly. Why industrial electronics need protection

On the factory floor, electronics rarely fail from a single event — they degrade from constant exposure. Humid air, conductive dust, oil mist and washdown spray settle on boards and slowly create leakage paths and corrosion. Humidity, dust, coolant and chemicals

Coolant mist from machining, humid washdown areas and airborne metal or carbon dust are especially harsh because the contamination is often conductive. What to coat in a control system

Terminals, relays and field wiring to mask

Mask screw terminals, plug-in connectors, relay contacts, programming and diagnostic ports, DIP switches and any user-serviceable points. These must stay accessible and conductive, so the coating goes around them, not over them.

Vibration and mechanical reinforcement

Machines vibrate, and vibration fatigues solder joints and connectors over time. A reinforced coating that hardens after curing supports joints and resists abrasion from dust, adding mechanical durability on top of moisture protection.

Applying the coating in an industrial workflow

Clean off oil and flux, dry the board, mask the serviceable points, then build thin even layers by dip, spray or brush. For repair shops and panel builders, brush application is practical for local reinforcement and field touch-ups; full boards can be dipped or sprayed in batches.

Serviceability and realistic limits

Because the coating is removable with a dedicated solvent, a coated control board stays serviceable — a technician can rework a point and re-coat without scrapping the module. A coating greatly reduces moisture and dust faults but does not replace a properly rated enclosure. Performance depends on coating thickness, surface preparation, curing, sealing quality, geometry, voltage, temperature and mechanical stress.
